A studiolo was a small, private study in Renaissance Italy. Not quite an office, not quite a library, not quite a cabinet of curiosities. It was a room for thinking, making, collecting, contemplating. A place where someone gathered the objects, books, artworks, natural specimens, instruments, fragments and ideas that constituted their private intellectual world.

And importantly, the studiolo wasn’t organized around productivity. It was organized around attention and inquiry. You went there to be with the things that fascinated you. Art beside science. Myth beside mathematics. A shell beside a manuscript. Beauty wasn’t separate from knowledge.

An archive of a life spent studying creation.
